Santa was operating a local refreshment kiosk near a prominent pilgrimage site in Himachal Pradesh during the peak holiday season.
The streets were jammed with thousands of vehicles, tourist rental cars, and pilgrim buses.
Santa noticed a driver of a shared traveller van buying single-use cups, smelling strongly of desi daru, laughing loudly, and preparing to take the wheel for a midnight mountain descent down the crowded loops.
“Oye, good luck on your journey, brother!” Santa cheered, waving him off.
“Drive fast and clear the traffic jam!”
“The pilgrim rush is massive today, the administration is busy managing the crowd at the temple gates, so no one will bother you on the road!”
Banta rushed out from the adjacent police transit tent, accompanied by a highway patrol officer carrying a freshly calibrated digital breathalyzer unit and a set of tire spikes.
He blocked the van’s path instantly.
“Oye, Santa-ji!”
“Stop acting like a cheerleader for an executioner!” Banta shouted, forcing the intoxicated driver to step out of the vehicle.
“You are waving goodbye to a disaster in progress!”
Santa adjusted his apron, looking confused.
“Oye Banta, it’s a happy festival night!”
“The driver says he knows these hill roads like the back of his hand.”
“Why create an administrative hurdle for a local small businessman during the peak economic season?”
“Intoxication and high-altitude hairpin turns are a lethal combination that completely eliminates human survival capacity, Santa!” Banta said sternly, watching the breathalyzer screen flash a red danger alert.

“Human error, heavily driven by drunken driving and reckless speeding, accounts for 90% of all Himachal road crashes!”
“We need an absolute policy of zero tolerance for intoxicated driving in the hills.”

“We must restrict overloaded transit passenger vans and cancel driving licenses instantly for violations!”

Santa watched the driver get escorted away by the patrol officer, the image of the packed passenger van sitting safely by the road sinking in.
