Health and Climate
New Report on Climate and Health
The 2025 report of the Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change Report continues to dominate policy discussions. It warns that climate inaction is now costing millions of lives annually, with heat-related mortalityincreasing significantly and food security being undermined globally.
It is a major publication warning that climate inaction is claiming millions of lives every year and pushing 12 of 20 key health indicators to record levels.
It calls for protecting people’s health to be the most powerful driver of climate action.
UNDRR Global Status Report
The 2025 Global Status of National DRR Strategies confirms that while most developing nations have established DRR frameworks, the challenges remain in resource allocation and translating strategies into effective local action.
DRR Financing Focus
The core message from the recent International Day for DRR (“Fund Resilience, Not Disasters”) remains the primary financial policy discussion, urging a decisive shift from reactive disaster response to proactive investment.
Extreme Weather Dominance
The Global Risks Report 2025 ranks extreme weather events as the top risk over the next decade. The record rainfall in India’s Western Ghats and the persistence of cyclonic systems deep into the post-monsoon period are direct incidences of the climate crisis.
Climate & Health Crisis
The WHO emphasizes that the increasing frequency of extreme weather threatens the essential ingredients of good health (clean air, safe water, nutritious food) and demands urgent, health-centered climate action.
Global Warming Trajectory
With current global heating pushing temperatures beyond historical norms, scientists stress that ambitious and coordinated actions, particularly the phase-out of fossil fuels, are immediately necessary to avoid the most catastrophic outcomes.
Historical Disasters on This Day (October 21)
1707 – Naval Disaster
