Santa was sitting in his small home office, surrounded by four table fans, two pedestals, and a bowl of ice cubes melting rapidly in front of his face.
He was trying to type a report on his laptop, but every time the air conditioner in the next room kicked in, the lights flickered and his computer restarted.
“Banta, oye Banta!” Santa wailed, throwing his hands up.
“This 2026 summer is a thief!”
“It’s stolen my efficiency, my electricity, and my sanity.”
“I’ve been trying to write this one email for three hours, but the ‘Load Shedding‘ is acting like a strict school teacher, turning off my power every time I get an idea!”
Banta walked in, carrying a small solar-powered lantern and a wet clay tile.
“Santa-ji, you are trying to fight a 21st-century heatwave with 20th-century habits.”
“You can’t just throw more fans at the problem when the grid is gasping for air.”
“We are seeing record Peak Demand because everyone is doing exactly what you’re doing.”
“So what do I do?” Santa asked.
“Work in the dark?”
“Become a caveman?”
“No,” Banta smiled.
“You become a ‘Phase-Shifter.’”
“Look at the ‘Cooling Shift’ model.”
“In Europe and parts of India now, they’ve adopted the Split-Work Day.”
“You work from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM when the air is fresh and the brain is sharp.”
“Then, you ‘siesta’ during the 12:00 to 4:00 peak, and finish your deep work in the evening.”
“It’s called Demand Side Management.”
Santa scratched his head.
“So, a ‘Moonlight Office’?”
“I work while the owls are hooting?”
“But what about the heat?”
“Use passive cooling, Santa,” Banta said, placing the wet clay tile near the window.
“This is an Evaporative Cooler trick.”
“And for your tech, use a ‘Battery First’ policy.”
“Charge your devices during off-peak hours, say early morning – so you don’t strain the grid when the sun is at its angriest.”
“Efficiency isn’t about working harder; it’s about outsmarting the thermometer.”
Santa nodded. “Phase-shifting… “
“I like it.”
“I’ll tell my boss I’m not lazy in the afternoon; I’m just ‘scientifically conserving the National Grid‘ while I nap!”
