Santa was relaxing on a plush velvet sofa in the lobby of his newly renovated boutique hotel in Delhi‘s Malviya Nagar area.
The walls were covered in expensive synthetic wallpapers, decorative lighting arrays, and central air-conditioning vents hidden behind beautiful false ceilings.
Banta walked in, carrying an electrical multi-meter and a thermal imaging camera.
He pointed the lens at a heavy circuit breaker panel behind the reception desk; the screen lit up with a brilliant, pulsing neon red, indicating extreme overheating.
“Oye, Santa-ji!” Banta called out, stepping back from the panel.
“Your lobby looks like a Bollywood film set, but your main electrical distribution board is running hotter than a brick kiln in mid-summer!”
“What have you hooked up to this poor circuit?”
Santa adjusted his silk tie and laughed smoothly.
“Banta, this is the ‘Grand Luxury Experience’!”
“I have added five new central AC compressors, a heavy commercial kitchen appliance load on the terrace, and ambient decorative LED panels in every corridor to attract foreign nationals!”
“It’s 100% modern development!”
Banta popped open the plastic casing of the panel, revealing melted copper wires hastily wrapped in cheap insulation tape.
“Santa-ji, this modern development is an active fire fuse.”
“Do you remember the devastating June 2026 Malviya Nagar hotel tragedy that took 21 lives, including foreign tourists?”
“It happened because of this exact pattern: rapid vertical growth without upgrading the baseline electrical infrastructure.”
“You have wrapped your entire hotel in highly toxic, smoke-producing synthetic interiors and false ceilings, while your overloaded electrical systems are pulling double their certified capacity!”
Santa waved his hand dismissively.
“Oye Banta!”
“I have a formal ‘Fire Safety Certificate’ signed by an agent last year!”
“No inspector has objected to our beautiful false ceilings.”
“A piece of paper stamped through local corruption cannot absorb heat, Santa!” Banta said sternly.
“The system relies on a completely fragmented governance framework across municipal bodies and under-equipped fire departments.”
“A real fire audit isn’t a paper check; it’s an active physical test of load capacities, automated smoke alarms, and integrated sprinkler systems.”
“When a short-circuit triggers at midnight behind your fancy wallpaper, the synthetic material will emit toxic thick black smoke, blinding your guests before they can even read your exit signs!”
“We are buying cosmetic luxury while manufacturing structural death traps!”
Santa stared at the hot breaker panel, his face turning pale.
“Oye… so my decorative lighting is actually a fuse for a disaster?”
“Exactly,” Banta said.
“If you don’t rationalize your energy load and invest in certified fire-resistant materials, your luxury stars won’t save you from a major headline.”
