Santa was standing at the rear boundary of his textile manufacturing factory, watching a thick, deep-purple chemical effluent discharge from a wide concrete pipeline directly into a local freshwater river channel.
He smiled, dusting off his industrial boots.
“Banta, look at the efficiency of our disposal system!” Santa cheered, pointing to the purple churning water.
“The river carries all our industrial residue away for free!”
“No need to build expensive internal chemical treatment plants.”
“The water looks abundant, it keeps flowing, and my company’s quarterly profit margins are soaring!”
Banta walked up the bank, dipped a glass vial into the river water, and watched the clear liquid turn into an opaque, toxic chemical sludge on contact.
He held up a regional water map showing the downstream agricultural blocks.
“Santa-ji, you are counting your corporate profits in the short-term, but you are actively manufacturing national water bankruptcy,” Banta said grimly.
“You look at this river and see an infinite garbage bin, but your untreated industrial discharge is permanently locking out our remaining freshwater reserves!”
“Oye Banta!”
“Water is a renewable resource!”
“The rain will wash the purple dye away by next week!” Santa argued, waving his clipboard.
“Polluted water is water removed from the living ecosystem, Santa!” Banta shouted.
“The global volume of available freshwater is diminishing fast due to industrial contamination.”
“When you dump untreated heavy chemicals, nitrates, and toxic effluents into our rivers, you destroy downstream agricultural viability, poison local drinking wells, and reduce our actual potable water supply to critical margins.”
“Scientists have already warned that the upcoming global conflicts won’t be fought over land or oil—the Fourth World War will be triggered by disputes over this abundant-looking but hyper-scarce resource: Water!”
“A true welfare state must enforce zero-compromise, stringent rules to stop freshwater pollution at the source.”
“If factories treat public rivers like private sewers, they must be closed down immediately by the state!”
