Santa was working as a structural consultant for a high-altitude mountain resort project in Uttarakhand, proudly holding a framed black-and-white photograph of a snow-covered mountain peak.
He had positioned his construction trailers directly in the center of an ancient alluvial deposition fan at the mouth of a steep Himalayan gorge.

“A little summer warm spell won’t shake these peaks.”
“Those fancy cryospheric failure theories belong in European textbooks.”
“Why should a builder in our mountains worry about what scientists in the Andes or the Alps are writing?”
“Chalta hai!”
Banta shook his head, set his laptop on the desk, and pulled up split-screen footage of two of the most devastating mass-wasting events in global history: the 1970 Huascarán disaster in Peru and the 2017 Piz Cengalo rock avalanche in Bondo, Switzerland.
“Santa-ji, the laws of physics and rock mechanics do not change their citizenship at the border!” Banta warned.
“The global cryosphere is waking up, and the Himalayas are singing the exact same tragic song as the Andes and the Alps!”
Santa blinked, leaning over the laptop screen.
“Oye Banta… what happened to those towns in the videos?”
“They look completely buried!”
“They were buried by the exact same beast that struck Tibet and Nepal on 26 August 2026, Santa!” Banta shouted.
“Look at Huascarán in the Peruvian Andes in 1970: a massive earthquake destabilized a hanging wall of glacier ice and fractured granite, dropping fifty million cubic meters of rock and ice vertically over three kilometers!”
“The pulverized slurry reached speeds of three hundred kilometers per hour, burying the entire city of Yungay and killing over twenty thousand people in minutes!”
“Or look at Piz Cengalo in Switzerland in 2017: deep permafrost thaw inside the mountain granite caused over three million cubic meters of rock and ice to collapse, transforming into repeated, high-density debris flows that devastated the village of Bondo!”
