Santa was standing on a newly widened curve of a high-altitude national highway, watching a team of heavy excavators aggressively cut into a steep, raw mountain slope.
The vertical rock face above was bare of trees, showing loose crumbling shale with large piles of excavated debris piled haphazardly along the shoulder.
“Oye Banta, look at this high-speed terrain modification!” Santa cheered, waving at the excavators.
“We are widening the highway to double-lanes in record time!”
“No need to waste weeks building expensive stone retaining walls or terracing the hillsides.”
“We just cut the rock vertically, push the mud off the side, and keep the highway open!”
“It’s clean, fast, and highly efficient!”
Banta stepped back, pointing his laser level at the unstable, weeping rock fractures and the loose, unmanaged muck piles.
He put on his safety helmet with a sigh.
“Santa-ji, this speed is a direct layout for a major geomorphological failure!” Banta warned.
“You think you’ve built a fast road, but you have actually created a giant, ticking landslide generator!”
Santa laughed, adjusting his sunglasses.
“Oye Banta!”
“They’ve been standing here for millions of years.”
“A little vertical cutting won’t make a difference!”
“The mountains are young, active, and highly fragile, Santa!” Banta shouted as a small wave of sand and pebbles slipped down the cut slope, dusting Santa’s shoulder.
