Santa was standing inside his modern mountain kitchen, staring at an un-melted tray of ice cubes sitting on a kitchen scale.
He had placed a large, heavy granite grinding pestle on top of the ice cubes and was looking at his watch with an expression of deep technological doubt.
Banta walked into the kitchen, carrying a physics textbook on thermodynamic energy conversion, a laser thermometer, and a mechanical engineering calculating tablet.
He stared at Santa’s bizarre kitchen experiment.
“Oye, Santa-ji!”
“Ram Ram!” Banta hailed him.
“Are you trying to invent a new method for making cold cold lassi, or have you opened a refrigerated science museum in your kitchen?”
Santa wiped his forehead, pointing at the cold, solid ice cubes.
“Banta, your explanation of the 26 August 2026 flood in Nepal has a massive physics hole in it!’
“You claimed that billions of metric tons of rock and ice fell from the Tibetan peaks, and that this falling ice instantly turned into the raging floodwaters that drowned the Trishuli valley and reached the Indian plains.”
“But look at this tray!”
“I put a heavy granite rock right on top of these ice cubes an hour ago, and they are still hard, solid ice!”
“If you smash a rock into ice, you just get cracked ice!”
“Where did millions of cubic meters of boiling, liquid floodwater come from without a massive fire underneath?”
Banta chuckled, took the heavy stone pestle, and pointed his laser thermometer at Santa’s forehead.
“Santa-ji, your kitchen tray has the weight of two kilograms, but a falling Himalayan titan has the energy of an atomic furnace!” Banta warned.
“You are completely ignoring the basic laws of Thermodynamics and Gravitational Potential Energy (Ep = mgh)!“
Santa blinked, crossing his arms.
“Oye Banta!”
“What is this mgh formula?”
“Ice is ice!”
“It melts at zero degrees Celsius with heat, not with math!”
“The math is the heat, Santa!” Banta shouted.
“Think about the sheer, terrifying scale: when billions of metric tons of rock and glacier ice detach from an altitude of over six thousand meters and plunge vertically down a sheer cliff face for more than a thousand meters, that massive height (h) and mammoth mass (m) convert gravitational potential energy into violent kinetic energy!”
“As this colossal mass free-falls through the air and crashes into the valley basin, it collides with the atmosphere and grinds against the bedrock walls at speeds exceeding two hundred kilometers per hour!”
“This violent friction and the impact pulverizes the rock into microscopic dust and converts that astronomical kinetic energy directly into thermal heat energy!“
Santa’s eyes went wide.
“Heat?”
“From just falling and rubbing?”
“Yes, Santa!”
“Exactly what happened in the 2021 Chamoli disaster and the legendary 1970 Huascarán avalanche in the Peruvian Andes!”
“The impact and frictional heat generated along the shear zone is so immense that millions of cubic meters of solid glacial ice melt instantaneously into liquid water within seconds!”
“The rock pulverizes into powder, the ice flashes into water, and the entire mass turns into a hyper-heated, churning, boiling grey-black slurry!”
“It’s not a peaceful melting of an ice cube on a plate; it is a giant, supersonic geological blender that cooks its own liquid flood as it plunges down the mountain!”
“If our engineers keep assuming that you need a sunny month to melt a glacier, they will build tiny culverts that will be vaporized the second a falling cliff turns ice into an instant ocean!”
Santa stared at his kitchen ice tray, imagining millions of tons of solid ice slamming down a cliff and liquefying into a roaring monster in the blink of an eye.
He dropped his kitchen pestle into the sink.
“Oye Banta… so the mountain didn’t wait for the sun to melt it… it used its own fall to ignite the blender?”
“Precisely, Santa-ji,” Banta smiled.
“Gravity provides the fuel, friction lights the match, and the falling mountain brews its own flood.”
“Never underestimate the heat of a falling titan!”
