Santa was standing on a steep slope near Kotkhai, sweating profusely as he dug massive, circular pits—Thalas —around his new apple saplings.
He looked like he was preparing the mountain for a giant game of golf.
“Oye, Banta!” Santa yelled, leaning on his shovel.
“Check this out!”
“I’m building ‘Luxury Bathtubs‘ for my Royal Gala saplings.”
“Each pit will hold fifty liters of water.”
“My apples will be so juicy, they’ll explode like water balloons!”
Banta walked down the slope, noticing how the soil felt soft and “spongy” under his boots.
He looked at a nearby tree that was tilting at a jaunty 45-degree angle.
“Santa-ji, you aren’t growing ‘Royal Gala‘; you’re growing ‘Royal Gila‘.”
“These bathtubs are actually ‘Landslide Launchpads‘.”
“Launchpads?”
“Banta, it’s a pit, not a rocket ship!” Santa scoffed.
“Think about it, Santa,” Banta said, pointing to the saturated soil.
“This slope is already prone to Solifluction—it’s like a thick layer of halwa sitting on a tilted plate.”
“Traditionally, we grew millets here because they didn’t need much water.”
“But now, you’re filling these pits with water.”
“That water doesn’t just stay in the pit; it seeps deep into the soil, lubricates the rocks below, and tells the whole slope, ‘Okay boys, time to slide down to the valley!’”
Santa looked at his tilted tree.
“So my tree isn’t trying to look at the view in the valley?”
“No,” Banta sighed.
“It’s trying to run away from your bathtub!”
“Switch to Drip Irrigation.”
“It gives the plant exactly what it needs, drop by drop, without turning the mountain into a water-slide.”
“If you keep filling these ‘bathtubs,’ the only thing you’ll be harvesting is a heap of mud in your neighbour’s backyard!”

Use Drip Irrigation to provide moisture directly to roots without saturating the soil mass.

- यदि ढलान पर ‘सोलीफ्लक्शन‘ या ‘क्रीप‘ के लक्षण (झुके हुए पेड़/दरारें) दिखें, तो वहां ढलान में बदलाव करने या भारी सिंचाई सेबचें / If a slope shows signs of solifluction or creep (tilted trees/cracks), avoid any modification or heavy watering.
